My child attends [SCHOOL] in School Board District 1.   I’m writing to acknowledge the ten-year investment in rebuilding arts education in LAUSD and to urge your support of the District’s continued investment in this vital effort.

I believe the arts are an integral part of my child’s education.  [INSERT PERSONAL STORY]

With unanimous and sustained school board support, LAUSD has cultivated an arts education infrastructure that provides high quality, sequential arts education in music, theatre, dance, and visual arts, for all students, regardless of their socio-economic status.

I appreciate your commitment and strong efforts to equip our children with the skills they need to succeed in work and in life.  Arts education gives our children the tools, the confidence and the motivation they need to be productive, engaged members of our society.

The core of the LAUSD arts program is comprised of a remarkable cadre of full-time specialists in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts.  The District has invested ten years recruiting, training, and supporting these teachers.  If the teachers are lost, kids will be denied access to a comprehensive education.  As we saw after Proposition 13, once programs are lost, it can take decades to rebuild these essential instructional offerings.  That’s why I’m urging you to stand behind this vital program.

Thank you for your continued service to our community and to ensuring that every child in LAUSD has access to a complete education.
