CCUSD Board of Education voted to preserve Arts Consultant position

After learning earlier this week that the general funds allocation for the Culver City Unified School District Arts Consultant position was slated for elimination in the 2010-11 budget, we are excited to announce that the CCUSD Board of Education unanimously voted at Tuesday's board meeting to remove the position from the proposed expenditure reduction list.

Take a moment to send a personalized thank-you note to the CCUSD Board of Education members. Their enthusiastic vote last night was a testament to their commitment to arts education in CCUSD.

The Arts Consultant is the district's key implementor of its arts education plan and programs, and in one day the Culver City community mobilized to advocate for the position to be preserved. At Tuesday's board meeting, over a dozen arts ed supporters came to show support with their presence, and several key stakeholders in the community made compelling presentations during public testimony that spoke to not only the value of the position, but to its far-reaching fiscal benefit.

Thank you to the Culver City community for taking the time to forward emails, make phone calls, and show up to meeting on Tuesday.  You made this happen.

Now take a moment to thank the CCUSD Board of Education for ensuring that arts education in CCUSD can continue to move forward despite this challenging fiscal climate.

With respect and appreciation,

The Culver City Arts Education Advocacy Team
